Obama Inauguration Speech

I try to see politics through an intellectual eye in an election. But the choice had been made and today we get to celebrate that choice. And, watching this 3x4.5-inch screen, I honestly cried.

College

This song resonates a bit too much for comfort. All my college buds: I miss you so much!

Thanksgiving

It's Thanksgiving and time again to be forced to voice what you're grateful for before dinner can start. Well, thankfully, I'm away in Canada where they've already celebrated Thanksgiving in October.

In all seriousness though, the blessings of my life are astounding once I stop to reflect. The usual thank God for my family, my job, my health. The little things that plague us day to day pale in comparison to the big picture when we remember to step back to look. Cliche as it all sounds it nevertheless bears repeating.

I thank you God...for everything...which is Yes.

This year, a few years after college and now having had some time to reflect on what I am and where I'm going (like looking into a muddy puddle, but I'm trying) I just want to take this time to say: I'm thankful for all the people who has touched my life.

Some of you know who you are, many others probably don't. Still others may not even remember who I am. But I am grateful to every one of you who have reached out, even if to you it was the slightest of ways, and wish you knew what that has meant.

And I'm thankful for the moment in time we are in. Sure, things are dire with the economy shot to hell and what with global climate change on track to make life on earth difficult. But this also presents an incredible opportunity for this generation to rise up and face the challenge. We can be part of the generation that literally saves the world. This is not a movie. This is not a story that builds and climaxes and denouements in 90 minutes. But this is a test of will, ingenuity, organization, and collaboration and, if done right, this can end with the triumph of the human spirit.

Now that is a story you can tell your grandchildren.

So, we're almost to the end of another year. I look forward to change and more of the same. To discoveries and progress. To laughter and spirit. To all the things that will make us stronger when we come out of it. And to add to the list of things I'm thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Olbermann speaks for me on Prop 8

As a Christian, I've had to defend myself from bemused to disbelieving reactions to my stand against California's Prop. 8. I think Keith Olbermann here makes my point eloquently and succinctly.

I am not convinced that my Lord asked me to defend marriage, but it is clear that he asks me to love my neighbors and to do unto other what I would have them do unto me.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

I want to see this movie. I think the trailer music convinced me.

Why I want Obama to Win

This post is something you'd probably see in one of those Secret forums, but I'll admit it:

Aside from the fact that Obama GETS that there is an urgency for green initiatives to address global climate change (and it's not just a US dependency issue), that he understands technology and diplomacy will solve big problems and that investments need to be made to get us there (spend smartly, rather than not at all), that he surrounds himself with people that will help him run the country rather than help him win an election, that he'd refocus our foreign involvement and withdraw from Iraq responsibly and with dignity...

One reason I REALLY want him to win is because

it would make Jon Stewart so happy.

Paris for Prez

I was getting seriously annoyed with the presidential debates. You know,
when you interview for a job, you talk up your own credentials and strengths
and explain how you would handle a situation when asked a situational
question. You don't get the job by talking down the other applicant and
circumventing the question.

I know it's an age-old political tradition, but it doesn't mean that it's
not dumb.

Anyway, I had to take a breather and these made me feel better. Or worse,
because I actually like Paris' ideas and she'll only ever be fake president
at best.

Loves it!
